Fieldmaster.ai vs. custom app development
An Alternative to Building a Custom App From Scratch
An app development company can build almost anything, starting from a blank page. If the app is for your own operation, with crews in the field and an office behind them, most of it already exists. Fieldmaster.ai builds your app around your process on a platform already proven in production, and delivers it working.
Side by side
Fieldmaster.ai vs. a Custom Build
Both give you an app made for your process. The difference is what it’s built on, and who looks after it afterwards.
| Fieldmaster.ai | Custom app development | |
|---|---|---|
| Designed first for | Fieldmaster.ai Your own operation: field crews, the office behind them, and the clients and vendors they deal with | Custom app development Whatever you specify, including consumer apps, online shops and software you plan to sell |
| What the app is built on | Fieldmaster.ai A platform already proven in production. More than 95% of every app is the platform itself. | Custom app development Code written for your project. Sign-in, roles, offline forms, approvals and reports are part of the build. |
| Who builds the app | Fieldmaster.ai We do, around your process | Custom app development The development company’s team, from a specification you agree with them |
| Time to first live app | Fieldmaster.ai 10 to 18 working days for a typical app. It arrives finished, built around your process, and your team builds nothing. | Custom app development Set by the scope of the project and the company’s schedule |
| How customers pay | Fieldmaster.ai Every user included: crews, supervisors, clients and vendors. A setup fee, then a yearly subscription priced on the work the app handles, which also covers hosting and maintenance. | Custom app development Usually a project fee or a rate per developer for the build. Hosting, maintenance and later changes are usually agreed separately. |
| AI for field work | Fieldmaster.ai Built in. Workers speak in Arabic, English, Hindi, Urdu and more, and AI fills the form. Photo AI reads meters, labels and plates, and rejects the wrong photo. It also spots problems in photos and checks that inspections were done properly. AI usage is included in the subscription. | Custom app development Whatever the specification asks for. Voice and photo features are built for your project, and the AI services behind them are usually charged to you. |
| Changes after go-live | Fieldmaster.ai Usually in days, made by the people who built the app, so nobody on your team has to maintain it. Your admins manage users, roles and permissions themselves. | Custom app development A change request to the development company, or your own developers if you take the code in-house |
| Support | Fieldmaster.ai Included in the subscription. You talk directly to the people who built your app, in Muscat, Ajman and Cochin. | Custom app development A maintenance contract with the development company, or your own team |
| What you own | Fieldmaster.ai Your data. Everything captured in the app belongs to your organization, and every list and chart exports to Excel. The platform stays ours, and we maintain it. | Custom app development Usually the app’s source code as well as the data, if the contract says so. You or the development company then keep it running. |
A general picture of custom app development as of October 2026. Terms differ from one development company and contract to the next; confirm the scope, who owns the code, hosting and maintenance with each company before deciding.

Starting from a blank page
A Custom Build Starts From Scratch. Your App Doesn’t Have To.
A custom build begins with a specification and an empty project. Before your process appears on a screen, the developers build what every operations app needs: sign-in, roles and permissions, offline forms, approvals, notifications, dashboards and exports. You pay for that work, and you wait for it.
With Fieldmaster.ai, those parts already exist and already run in production. More than 95% of every app is the platform itself, so the project is spent on your process: your forms, your approval steps, your reports. A typical app is live in 10 to 18 working days.

Already built in
Voice, Photo AI and Offline Work Come With the Platform
In a custom project, every field feature is a line in the estimate: working without signal, filling a form by voice, reading a meter or a number plate from a photo, serving crews who speak different languages.
In Fieldmaster Pocket, they are part of the platform. A driver describes the journey in a short voice note, in Arabic, Urdu, Hindi or English, and the form fills itself. A photo of the number plate is read and checked. Every record is stamped with GPS, time and who did it, and the app keeps working offline.

What You No Longer Have to Manage
A new project for every app
Your next app runs on the same platform, with the same users. You roll out app after app without starting again.
A backlog of changes
New screens, steps and reports usually land in days, made by the team that built your app.
A separate maintenance contract
Hosting, support, maintenance and AI usage are part of the subscription. You talk directly to the people who built your app, based in Muscat, Ajman and Cochin.
What Our Clients Say
Organizations use Fieldmaster to improve coordination between field teams and office operations.
A fair comparison
When Custom App Development Is the Right Choice
A good development company can build things a platform can’t. A custom build is the better route when:
The app is for the public
You need a consumer app in the app stores under your own brand, such as a shop or a booking app. That part is a custom build. We can connect to its backend, so the orders and requests it takes are carried out and tracked in Fieldmaster.ai.
The software is your product
You plan to sell the software itself, or it’s the core of your business, and you need to own the source code.
You have developers to keep it running
Your own team, or a development company on contract, will host the app, secure it and change it for years.

FAQ
Questions About Custom Development and Fieldmaster.ai
Is Fieldmaster.ai an app development company?
Not in the usual sense. We build your app for you, but on our own platform, which already runs in production for field operations. You get a working app around your process without paying for a build from scratch.
Can you build any kind of app?
No. Fieldmaster.ai is for operations: field crews, the office behind them, and the clients and vendors they deal with. For a consumer app or an online shop, an app development company is the right choice. We can connect Fieldmaster.ai to that app’s backend, so the work that follows a customer’s order runs in Fieldmaster.ai.
We’re looking for an AI app development company. Does the app use AI?
Yes. Voice fill and photo AI are part of the platform. Workers speak in their own language and the form is filled in for them to check, and photos of meters, labels and number plates are read and checked. AI usage is included in the subscription.
How long does it take to get an app live?
A typical app takes 10 to 18 working days to build. You see a working version of your own process on a phone early on, then your team tests it before go-live.
How is Fieldmaster.ai priced next to a custom build?
A setup fee and a yearly subscription priced on the work the app handles, such as items managed, journeys, purchase orders, permits or forms per month. Every user is included, along with hosting, support, maintenance and AI usage. A custom build is usually a project fee, with hosting and maintenance agreed separately.
Do we own the app?
Your organization owns its data: everything captured in the app is yours, and lists and charts export to Excel. The platform is ours, and we maintain it. If owning the source code matters most to you, a custom build is the better fit.
Can it connect to our other systems?
Yes. Our team builds the connection as part of the project: API connectors and webhooks that work in both directions, tailored to the systems you run, plus Excel import and export.
Do you work with companies outside the GCC?
Yes. Most of our work so far is in the GCC, and we take on companies in other regions too. The same team builds and supports your app, from Muscat, Ajman and Cochin.
